Rio Dorado
Nothing like sight fishing for Golden Dorado in a crystal clear small jungle creek in Argentina for 6 straight days!
The Rio Dorado says everything you need to know. A small beautiful and clear river full of hungry Golden Dorado. What’s particularly special about this river is their willingness to look up for large mice or grasshoppers! World class dry fly fishing! With 6 days of fishing along with amazing food and wine, we’re sure to have an incredible experience. While the fishing is technical, you’ll cover several miles of river each day stalking and targeting the aggressive and magnificent Golden Dorado.
Lodging is bit more wild & rugged with 3-4 nights at a lodge and 3-4 nights at a remote camp, you’ll be in a beautiful setup regardless. Even the camp tents have a fan and cot along with excellent food!
Not only is the fishing spectacular but most days you’ll be joined by macaws & birds of every kind, butterflies, river otters, occasional Tapir’s and an almost overwhelming and incredible amount of biodiversity. This trip is not for the faint of heart with long days of hiking over slick rocks and bushy side trails. Be prepared for the hikes and pray for no rain as there’s always a slight chance of flooding which shuts down the fishing. If extreme rain, we will shift to the Juramento River. $4,600 which covers everything except travel to/from Salta, fishing equipment, and tips to staff (recommend 10%). This includes all hotels, travel, food/alcohol, from the time you arrive & depart Salta.
Itinerary below (agenda is subject to last minute minor changes):
Nov 1-3: Fly from home to Salta, Argentina arriving in Salta at some point on November 3rd. I recommend flying to Buenos Aires for a night before heading to Salta. Regardless, arrive in Salta by early afternoon Nov 3 to be picked up and transported to the lodge.
Nov 4-6: Three days of flyfishing the Rio Dorado, a small tributary of the Juramento river, for Golden Dorado. Epic hiking and sight fishing opportunities in a world class jungle setting. Smaller and remote camp (pictured below). This river is noteworthy for its excellent topwater fishing!
Nov 7-9: Switch lodges and head straight back out for more flyfishing. With a nicer lodge, although a 30-40 minute drive to the river, you’ll get to see new water with equally excellent fishing opportunities.
Nov 10 & 11: Depart Salta on the November 10th and travel home via your personal route/schedule.
